This case study shows you how to use an Excel file called employees.xls as a source in Oracle Warehouse Builder. To read data from Microsoft Excel, you need the ODBC driver for Excel. ![]() If you want to delimit the data to be imported from the Excel file, then define a name for the range of data being sourced: Step 2: Delimit the Data in the Excel File (Optional) By default, the ODBC driver for Excel is installed on a Windows system. In the employee_details worksheet, highlight the range to query from Oracle. The range should include the column names and the data. ODBC Manager System DSN Select the driver required for your database. Ensure that the column names confirm to the rules for naming columns in the Oracle Database.įrom the Insert menu, select Name and then Define. When the Administrator window appears, press the Add button to create a new System DSN. Set up a System Data Source Name (DSN) using the Microsoft ODBC Administrator. ![]() Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Data Sources (ODBC). This opens the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box. Navigate to the System DSN tab and click Add to open the Create New Data Source dialog box. The ODBC Microsoft Setup dialog box is shown in Figure 5-1.įigure 5-1 ODBC Microsoft Excel Setup Dialog Boxĭescription of "Figure 5-1 ODBC Microsoft Excel Setup Dialog Box" Select Microsoft Excel Driver as the driver for which you want to set up the data source.Ĭlick Finish to open the ODBC Microsoft Excel Setup dialog box. For example, odbc_excel.Ĭlick Select Workbook to select the Excel file from which you want to extract data. Step 4: Create the Heterogeneous Services Initialization File Verify that the Version field lists the correct version of the source Excel file. This article contains general information about ODBC data sources, how to create them, and how to connect to them by using Microsoft Access. You get this error in Microsoft Access, not in the ODBC applet. The ODBC applet works fine, you can create System DSNs and test them, they work perfectly. Microsoft Access MVP That is not correct. To configure the agent, you must set the initialization parameters in the heterogeneous services initialization file. Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is a protocol that you can use to connect a Microsoft Access database to an external data source such as Microsoft SQL Server. Rather you find the ODBC applet odbcad32.exe (probably in your system32 or syswow64 folder), right-click, and select Run as Administrator. Each agent has its own heterogeneous services initialization file. The name of the Heterogeneous Services initialization file is init SID. Please refer the following article on how to backup and restore the registry. This file is located in the OWB_HOME \hs\admin directory.Ĭreate the initexcelsid.ora file in the OWB_HOME \hs\admin directory as follows: ora, where SID is the Oracle system identifier used for the agent. Please note before modifying any registry entries we would recommend you to perform a backup of the registry. MySqlConnectionString = "Driver= Server=xx.xxx.xx.Here, odbc_excel is the name of the system DSN you created in Step 3. This is the connection string I am using: The thread '' (0x1648) has exited with code 0 (0x0).Ī first chance exception of type '' occurred in Īn ODBC exception occurred: ERROR Data source name not found and no default driver specifiedĪ first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in App_Web_uoi23wal.dll I have tried everything from every website thread, and I still cannot find a solution. I cannot continue my project without accessing this database. All other instances of this driver are removed from the User DSN from both odbcad32 and the 64 bit odbc client. I added this to my System DSN and the test connection works fine (from odbcad32.exe). What I've tried: Uninstalling the 64 bit ODBC driver for MySQL with a 32 bit driver. Everything works fine, including my ODBC connection to an Oracle database.however, I cannot connect to a mySQL database like I could with VS 2005 on a WinXP 32 bit box. it will likely try to overwrite rather than create a new one, and being unable to do this. Problem: I converted an old Visual Studio 2005 project to 2010 on a Windows 7, 64 bit box. INI System DSNs created in ODBC Data Source Administrator. ![]() I have searched this for several days now (including trying the solution from one link from this site) and I still cannot get this to work.
